Where is Dr. Arielle from?

I am from Valley Stream, NY on Long Island. I moved a lot when I was in the military but finally settled on Washington, DC. I have lived here for the last 11 years.

How did Dr. Arielle get into nuclear engineering?

I started my engineering career in the US Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer with a Nuclear subspeciality. I was accepted into the US Navy Nuclear Program prior to graduating college and after completing Navy Nuclear Power School and Prototype I served as a Propulsion Plant Watch Officer on board a US Navy aircraft carrier.

Did Dr. Arielle go straight into her PhD program after undergrad?

No. I spent 5 years in the US Navy. I started my masters degree at North Carolina State University after leaving the Navy but was also working full-time at GE-Hitachi Nuclear Energy as a project manager and Lean Leader/Six Sigma Black Belt. After completing my master's degree in Nuclear Engineering at NC State I continued to work as an engineer while pursuing my PhD at Howard University in mechanical engineering.

What were Dr. Arielle’s undergrad and master’s degrees in?

My undergrad degree is in Physics from Northwestern University and my Master’s degree is in Nuclear Engineering.

What motivated Dr. Arielle to pursue a PhD in mechanical engineering?

I wanted to expand my knowledge and experience outside of Nuclear Engineering into materials, specifically in additive manufacturing. Howard University’s mechanical engineering department has a focus in additive manufacturing, and I was able to find an advisor, Dr. Grant Warner, who’s research aligned with my interests.

Does Dr. Arielle have a PE license?

o Yes I do. I got my Professional Engineers license in Nuclear Engineering in 2009. I am currently licensed in the State of Maryland. I also serve on the American Nuclear Society’s Nuclear Professional Engineering Examination Committee (PEEC). I am currently the PEEC Exam Prep Subcommittee Chair.
